Whelp...at my appointment this morning, my cervix had shortened from 3.25 cm to 2.20 cm in a matter of days...and this happened, even with completely complying with SUPER STRICT bedrest!! Dr. Tabor immediately had me admitted to the hospital and I am awaiting surgery tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. At 10:00am, I will have a cervical cerclage performed, hopefully under spinal/epidural anesthesia. The doc didn't know if I would be able to go home or not and even mentioned that I might spend the rest of this pregnancy on complete hospital bedrest! YIKES!! So, we'll just have to wait and see.
Doc said that my uterus is already measuring as a full term singleton pregnancy. So, my body, in turn, is proceeding to make the necessary adjustments to deliver soon. The hormones in my body, due to my four precious little wonders, are what is causing the rapid shortening of my cervix. But thank God that they have at least have 2.2 cm to work with..so, it should be a very easy cheesy routine procedure.
PLEASE, please, please pray for me, the babies, and Joe...especially tomorrow at 10am. Today I am at a full 20 weeks (in my 21st week) and I'm having such negative thoughts about getting these babies to at LEAST 24 weeks (viability) for now. So please be praying for that specifically.

It's amazing how tough little ones are!!! Sending all the good thoughts I can muster your way! ReplyDeleteYou will be in my thoughts and prayers. I truly believe that the cerclage is what allowed me to stay pregnant to viability and I am so glad to hear that they have 2.2 cm to work with. I know you both must be so fearful right now, but there are so many people praying for you and your kiddos. Honestly, once I was admitted to the hospital, I was happy to stay there for the duration just because I felt so much better being monitored and under the watchful eye of my doctor and fabulous nurses. If you end up being admitted for good, make sure they give you an egg crate foam thingy for your mattress! I spent the first night on the regular old delivery beds and was never more uncomfortable in my life.
Please update when you can. I was terribly uncomfortable the first night after the surgery, but felt fine the next morning.

ReplyDeleteI will be thinking of you tomorrow!! I was 24 weeks when I needed a second rescue cerclage, my cervical legnth was down to 0.4cm at that point!! That was one of the most terrifying days, but that cerclage held those girls in until 34 weeks!!

I too have multiples, I have bbb triplets who will be 2 in 1 week, and gg twins who just turned 10 months old! I'm praying for you and the squad. I underwent an abdominal cerclage and survived hospital bedrest from week 20 thru delivery at week 28. I was on mag the entire time.....you can do this! The Lord is faithful!

I am an Army wife and my hubby, kiddos and I actually live in Killeen (Ft. Hood)! Anyway, I have been watching your progress and you, youe hubby and kids are in my daily prayers! ReplyDeleteYou don't know me, I found you from an IF blog, but I'm a committed Christian and I really feel called to lift you and your husband and the 4 babies up in prayer over the next weeks/months. Of all the IF/Pregnancy blogs I've come across, yours has been the MOST inspiring in terms of being pregnant with multiples and trusting God. You are a walking example of the faith talked about in Hebrews 11.

What may be helpful would be to get a little list up of some "favs" (type of movies, books, music, etc) that may pass the time so that family/friends reading your blog could lend/give to you since they want to help but may not know how.

I hope everything went well today and your babies continue to grow beyond 24 weeks. I just recently found out that I am pg with quads (14 weeks tomorrow) I found out at 10 weeks because I was growing so fast. I have 5 year old twins. This pg was natural while my twins were conceived using injectables. I would definitely like to keep in contact with you.

ReplyDeleteI jsut found your blog. I'll add you to my prayers. I was on bedrest at home for 3 weeks and in the hospital on bedrest for 8 days. A computer, television/movies and books are key.
ReplyDeleteAlso, try to keep to a schedule so that you aren't up all night watching tv and sleeping all day. That helped me a lot.
I'll continue to pray that those babes stay nice and warm and snuggly inside of you. And that you're not going completely stir crazy!!!

Just wanted to let you know that I had a cerclage with my triplet pregnancy at 19 weeks 5 days because my cervix had shortened from 4 to 3 to 2.2 over the course of two weeks. I stayed on strict bedrest at home for 7 weeks, hospital bedrest for another 5.5, delivered three healthy babies at 32 weeks, 4 days, and had them all home within 5 weeks.
ReplyDeleteSo don't give up hope, a cerclage is a sign of aggressive medical care and will hopefully buy you many more weeks of pregnancy joy/misery.
