Savi's New Shoes!...(and Braces)

Taa-Daahh!

Savannah and I took a trip into Fort Worth today to pick up her ankle braces. Again, my kids are fearful to be anywhere but home--so here she is, sitting in the waiting room, with this look on her face like "Mom, you had BETTER NOT leave me here!" (I have about 5 pictures of her in the waiting room with the same look on her face...cracks me up)

I tried to make her laugh and even placed my sunglasses on her face---she didn't move an inch! Didn't even crack one smile!...but Mommy sure was having a good time with it! (snicker, snicker)

I picked out the cute pink color, and heart strap...thought it fit her well!

Sav has to wear shoes with her braces when they are on (which will only be for a couple of hours each day--to help her feel more comfortable and sturdy while walking)...so, on our way home we had to stop at Babies 'R Us and pick up some cute tennis shoes that would be able to accompany her braces.

This should be interesting! I'll keep you updated on her progress!

    Hi Suz,
Love your blog. You have a great family!
My sister (a triplet, now 26) had to wear foot braces to sleep for a while to turn her legs out. Since you mentioned Savannah's legs naturally turn out, I bet she'd be a wonderful ballerina once her ankles are stronger!

  6. You should definitely see results form the ankle braces. I am currently a Children's Minister, but before I did that, I worked with special needs kids. Quite a few of the kiddos I worked with needed that type of support, and it was always amazing to see the progress they made. Plus, you picked out a really darling color.

  11. Savannah is so cute! I love the pigtails and that face. But, one question - how do you manage to not scoop her up all day long and just squish her?!

  12. Adorable! She sure does look mad in the waiting room though :) I have watched many kiddos with these shoes and they might not like them at first, but it DOES GET BETTER! Good luck Savannah!

  16. I just love following your blog . .and that pattern for the braces makes them look CUTE! My son, now almost 3, had some very similar that he wore for about 6 months to strengthen his ankles and help with arches (and clumsiness!!), and they made an AMAZING difference. Your babies are beautiful - I'm so glad you choose to share bits of their life with "blog world!"

  20. Those are PRECIOUS!! My little Brooklyn will someday need braces to help her walk, and I hope they are that cute!! Look out world... Sav is STYLIN'!!! :)

I haven't commented in awhile, but I still keep up with you 6. :) You are a rockstar, and you've inspired me in lots of ways. Our world has been rocked a little with the birth of our new angel, and I have to tell you that just keeping up with the Steeces helps me. It does. So... thanks. :) I know.... "awwwwwwwww"... a little sappy. But, you needed to know! Have a fabulous week!

  26. Awwww, you got such cute braces! Our docs don't do anything so cute for our little ones :( Just plain old solid white :(

Love the tennis shoes as well and of course, Miss Sav's faces. haha

Wanted to ask, how much bigger did you have to buy the sneakers? Will and Em are both getting fitted and i am wondering if I will need separate shoes for them...

I have read your blog forever but never commented!I was a nurse at Cook Childrens forever, mom of three under three including twins (only) and live in Arlington so I felt we had a lot in common. It has been a joy to read about your sweet babies and read all you little pearls of wisdom.I am now a quad mama blog addict as my husband says and I can not see Jen King's blog anymore!! I tried to type my email in etc and it says you have to be an invited guest. Since you are so computer savvy I thought maybe you could help a girl out. Thanks,Jen Hoelscher

It was AMAZING! I think that you will be pleased!

I am anxious to see how it goes!

  35. We have similar braces for Pius in the mail to us. Our Pedi and PT recommended them. Can't wait to hear another "Review by Suz" on how they're working out! Let us know!

  38. Good luck with the braces. A couple of months with braces on my girls and they were fine. of course, they will always look flat footed. From all the blood work and IV's in the NICU, the scar tissue makes it look like there is an issue.

  39. Awwww Suz...they are so cute!!! I love the picture of Sav in the waiting room...boy have I seen this look from my crew lately. I don't know if it's stranger anxiety or RSV Lockdown or what, but like you said they just want to be at home & they are not liking visitors these days either! So funny!

  42. Suz, I jsut came across your blog today...7AM and spent the first 4 hours of work (yes I'm at work reading your blog) reading your blog. It is like a book that you can't put down!! You have an AMAZING family. I'm 25 and have almost 7 month identical twin boys. I am amazed at the patience you have for your kids and being a stay-at-home-mom. I don't know how you do it. I was home with my boys for 16 weeks until I went back to work part-time (now I work full-time) and I thought I wanted to stay home until I got back into the working world. When I'm home with my boys I still struggle to find the patience to handle them sometimes...makes me feel like a bad mom some days when I get frustrated with them. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!

On a lighter note...I have what I call my "twin skin" from my tummy stretching so much, any adivce on how to get that flat tummy again would also help!! You look amazing from having 4!!!

  43. Hi there. I recently found your blog, and it's too much fun! Your kiddos are adorable. One of my little boys wears braces similar to these. They have really helped a lot. He has mild Ataxic CP which contributes to low muscle tone. The braces give him the support he needs to run around and be a bit more stable on his feet. It has been a definite confidence booster for us. Hopefully it works out for you too. Good luck!
