...my dear, sweet Aunt Bonne who lost her fight with Breast Cancer...I miss her SO much.
Whew---talk about a workout! About 50% of the 5K was uphill! Joe is either smiling, or about to pass out.
Such a neat experience, I'm SO glad we were all able to be a part of it this year. It was surreal to realize that everyone walking had been touched by this awful disease in one way or another. There were pictures of loved ones pinned on shirts...I couldn't help but tear up a billion times throughout the morning. All of the mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, friends affected...just breathtaking.

ReplyDeleteWe are walking in the one at Waco this weekend. I can't wait!! I have two aunts that fought breast cancer and WON. We walk every year to honor them!!!
ReplyDeleteNot a day goes by that I don't shed a tear for her. Thank you for remembering her and treasuring who she was in your heart. We will be having out relay for life here in May and I can't hardly wait... It is such an amazing experience... THANKS FOR SHARING WITH THE WORLD YOUR DESIRE TO CONQUER CANCER!!!!!

What a great workout- 5k with a stroller full of growing toddlers. Phew- I would have been tired :-) Looks like a great time!

it's an experience isn't it? i participated in the 'race for cure' a couple of years back with a bunch of people from one of my classes... and the emotions ran high all day.

ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne! I just stumbled on your blog because of your Komen post. My mother has fought stage 3 breast cancer and is currently cancer free. We praise God for that every day! But she would not have had such a good prognosis were it not for the efforts of the Komen foundation. The funds they have raised over the years is amazing!! Honestly nothing short of a miracle. Hopefully one day there will be a cure.

ReplyDeletei got to walk in the breast-cancer 3day event last november in dallas and also have done race for the cure. you said it right, it is overwhelming the number of lives breast cancer impacts. i'm so glad your sweet family got to be a part of such a wonderful cause and what a special way to remember your aunt bonne!

ReplyDeleteI had a good friend who found a lump in her breast when her twins were 4 months old. She died a week before they turned 5 years old. She wanted to make it long enough to see her babies go to kindergarten but that did not happen. It's been 3 years that she has been gone and I miss her.

I was hoping you'd blog about this event ... I saw you guys out there! I am a long-time lurker and have been reading your blog since the babies were born but have never commented. Saturday's race was my first Komen event, and it was amazing! I plan to do it every year from now on. When I saw you guys, my eyes probably popped out of my head ... I couldn't believe it, the Steeces in person!! :-) I didn't want to bug you, but I did have to scoot over and say a quick "I read your blog!" Doing that walk pushing the quad stroller HAD to be quite the workout! Hope to see you guys out there next year!!

ReplyDeleteI enjoy have never posted before but want you to know I just love your posts. You really seem to ENJOY your kiddos. I love that you do things with them..not just sit around.
I would love to meet you and the bunch if I were to ever get down that way. Right now I am a nanny to kids ages 7, 5, 3 and 1. I just love the younger ages. I have three of my own 21, 16, and 12.

ReplyDeleteMy mom and I are volunteers for the Race in Little Rock AR. We just love it and I am so glad you got the experience! I hope you guys keep doing it every year. We have over 40,000 women at the one in Little Rock. Its something to see that's for sure. I love the pounding of the sidewalk with all those women filling the streets and bridges. AMAZING!!! Joe should do the 3 Miles of Men...a lot of men and their frat brothers get together and cheer on the ladies as they walk by. It really helps and is so rewarding for the men.
