I LOVE seeing new art projects that the kids have done at school (and I absolutely LOVE their teacher- she rocks).

Ethan and Andrew’s “thankful feathers” depict perfectly where their heads are at right about now…
Can you imagine how many times a day I hear about Christmas presents/Santa/etc. Its exhausting because every time they start up with what THEY are going to get---I quickly interject with the TRUE meaning of Christmas: the birth of Jesus; doing things for others; spending time with those we love, etc. They WILL get it eventually, right?
Umm…when you ask Sav this question, she likes to look around the room and start naming items within her line-o-vision. (i.e. a clock, a lamp, a book, “my strong muscles”- yes, I have heard this one on several occasions…)
Neat, Sav. Okay, we’ll settle for “food”.
And sweet Benny- the kindest, sweetest, most gentle little boy you will ever meet.
My heart just turned to mush. Sweet Benny-boo. God love you and your loving heart.
I get a huge kick out of hearing what kids are thankful for---do you guys have some funny ones?
I am going to blog Ashley's. Parents, grandparents, God, her teachers, her were all mentioned. NOT her big sister. Her reply: I AM thankful for her but I didn't want anyone to know it!!
ReplyDeleteLast night we asked our 3 year old, Ty, what he was thankful for. He said "Baby Jesus". We were all excited and happy. Then followed..."because he gets me food and it makes me feel really good."
ReplyDeleteWell, my 20 year old son recently told me he really appreciated the example we set for him for what a good marriage was all about. He also said we get an A+ in parenting. Quite a tender moment coming from our big bad Marine, especially consider how imperfect we are as parents...and human beings.
ReplyDeleteBut when he was little, my husband used to pray over our meals "thank you God for this food...we ask you to bless the hands that prepared it." When Blake first said the prayer he said "Thank you God for this food...now help our hands to repair it.." Slip up? I'm not sure.
at that age, my kids, without fail, will always say candy. hopefully one day they'll get a little bit deeper :)

ReplyDeleteMy son will be 4 years old in January. His preschool teacher did a similar craft as you showed... each of the kids turkeys had "thankful feathers" and on my son's feathers were, "Mommy and Daddy", "all of my friends", and.... "Hippos". Yes, Hippos. Not sure where that came from! :)

ReplyDeleteWhen my sis taught preschool she had a rule that the kids could only talk about what they were giving for Christmas, not about what they hoped they would get. They told her some wonderful things that they would like to give to others!
ReplyDeleteLast year one of my nephews were thankful for toilet water! Not toilets, not water, not flushable toilets but toilet water! He was only 5 but I think it's a story that's going to follow him forever.
ReplyDeleteOh that little Savi sure is funny! My cousin who is now 10 was interviewed when he was in preschool for his graduation poster they asked him what he wanted to be when he grows up and he decided on a pinecone. bahaha we still call him our little pinecone! Last year he crawled under the Christmas tree to get a present and came out with needles from the tree all over his back and we all started laughing saying that his dream came true and he is a pinecone now. He just laughed. lol In his defense they were making pinecone and peanut butter bird feeders so he saw it and went for it. ;)

We're going to try to do thankful leaves (I'm a little late so maybe ornaments instead) out of cardstock this year, but Kaelyn's pretty young (21 months). I think if I asked her what she's thankful for, she would say "Mo" (Nemo).

I don't comment much but I HAD to comment on Ben's response to what he was thankful for. How incredibly sweet is that? You and your husband are clearly doing a fantastic job raising those kids!

ReplyDeleteMy 5 year old little girl was thankful for 'hearts, flowers, princesses, and mac and cheese' and my 6 year old boy was thankful that 'my dog is happy' (we don't even own a dog...)
