Strollin' for a Cure...Think PINK!

This past Saturday, the Steece 6 teamed up with Joe's work peeps to attend the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure 5K in downtown Fort Worth, TX. Despite having to wake up 2 hrs ahead of schedule in the weeeee hours of the chilly morning, the quads enjoyed their adventurous stroll. (Ben, Sav, Ethan, Andrew) Ben is not so sure...

Everyone getting excited and congregating around the Start of the race (I LOVE downtown FW, btw....LOVE IT).

These cute, spunky ladies were lovin' on the quads---passing out fun little pom-poms

The boys weren't too interested, but Savi held on to hers throughout the race

Walking and Strollin' in memory of...

...my dear, sweet Aunt Bonne who lost her fight with Breast Cancer...I miss her SO much.

Whew---talk about a workout! About 50% of the 5K was uphill! Joe is either smiling, or about to pass out.

Such a neat experience, I'm SO glad we were all able to be a part of it this year. It was surreal to realize that everyone walking had been touched by this awful disease in one way or another. There were pictures of loved ones pinned on shirts...I couldn't help but tear up a billion times throughout the morning. All of the mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, friends affected...just breathtaking.

The quads headin' toward the Finish Line...

Ahhh...WE DID IT!

1 hr, 24 min. (to be fair, we waited until the big crowd started the race and then hopped on in at the back)

Hi Suzanne! I just stumbled on your blog because of your Komen post. My mother has fought stage 3 breast cancer and is currently cancer free. We praise God for that every day! But she would not have had such a good prognosis were it not for the efforts of the Komen foundation. The funds they have raised over the years is amazing!! Honestly nothing short of a miracle. Hopefully one day there will be a cure.

My mother, sister and I along with my mom's best friend will be walking the Komen 3-day in Dallas/Ft. Worth November 6th-8th. We have a blog set up to chronicle our journey www.oursolepurpose.blogspot.com . Your aunt Bonne will be one of the women we are walking for!

And, I couldn't help but notice your husband's hat...are you guys A&M grads? I am class of '03!

Have a great day!

I am getting teary eyed after reading this post. It is amazing to me how many people are touched by cancer in their lives, and just heartbreakingly awful.
What a beautiful thing you have done, by walking with your family in honor of your aunt. Such a blessing.
Thank you for warming my heart on this gloomy, rainy Tuesday.
Blessings to you!
Love, Debi

Awesome! And you made good time (even with waiting). Thank you for doing this, really!

I am not sure if you got my comment a month or two back. But I was wanting to write the quads names on my t-shirt when I go walking in the March for Babies walk on April 25th. Here is my link if you're interested in seeing (has a pic of my preemie twins from almost seven years ago!): http://www.marchforbabies.org/personal_page.asp?w=11027403&u=alison523

If it is okay, please email me: alison23 at comcast dot net

I've been a longtime reader of your blog (started reading around the time the quads were born!). I just rarely comment. :D

Thank you for walking Suz and family! I love Sav's little pom pom.
I had a good friend who found a lump in her breast when her twins were 4 months old. She died a week before they turned 5 years old. She wanted to make it long enough to see her babies go to kindergarten but that did not happen. It's been 3 years that she has been gone and I miss her.

You, Joe and the quads are an adorable family!

I was hoping you'd blog about this event ... I saw you guys out there! I am a long-time lurker and have been reading your blog since the babies were born but have never commented. Saturday's race was my first Komen event, and it was amazing! I plan to do it every year from now on. When I saw you guys, my eyes probably popped out of my head ... I couldn't believe it, the Steeces in person!! :-) I didn't want to bug you, but I did have to scoot over and say a quick "I read your blog!" Doing that walk pushing the quad stroller HAD to be quite the workout! Hope to see you guys out there next year!!

My mom and I are volunteers for the Race in Little Rock AR. We just love it and I am so glad you got the experience! I hope you guys keep doing it every year. We have over 40,000 women at the one in Little Rock. Its something to see that's for sure. I love the pounding of the sidewalk with all those women filling the streets and bridges. AMAZING!!! Joe should do the 3 Miles of Men...a lot of men and their frat brothers get together and cheer on the ladies as they walk by. It really helps and is so rewarding for the men.
