Are You Still Alive???

Yes, yes...despite my 2-year-olds' BEST efforts, I am still alive and kickin'. The 'ole blog has been gettin' the shaft lately because frankly- I'm POOPED! So, what's been going on with the Steece's and their pieces?

SICK JOE:
My poor sweet hubby has been running anywhere between 100 and 103.7 fever for the past couple of days. The kids and I took him to the doctor yesterday where they ran a flu test (I would have bet my LIFE it was flu related), strep test, blood work, etc. Apparently its just some bacterial infection...but I dunno.
(tee hee hee. I just ran in there and took a pic. Evil Suz!)
I don't think I have EVER seen him this sick. FEVER, sweating profusely, chills, entire body aches...poor fella. So, Nurse Suz has been in full effect---while being the sole provider/caretaker for 4 very active toddlers as well. (Keeping Daddy in quarantine)
Its been fun around here! LOL.

NEW SUZ!
But I feel great because I'm on day 4 of a commitment that I made to myself---I've been waking up early in the morning to hit the gym (before Joe leaves for work)...and I feel AMAZING throughout the rest of the day! My BFF, McNulty, who continues to inspire me and cheer me on has been my encouragement...and Elyse, girl---you rock my world---such a great example! So, it was time for Suz to get off her rear and exercise that body. (and maybe hit my pre-pregnancy weight for the first time in forever? UGH! That would be nice)

THE RUGRATS:
Are just that...rugrats. HOLY COW! Why do I feel like all I do each day is constantly reprimand? NO NO NO NO. TIME OUT. SAY YOU'RE SORRY. DID YOU TAKE YOUR BROTHER/SISTER'S TOY? The little *dears* are constantly testing their boundaries and seeing what they can get away with. ahhhh....the TERRIFIC TWOS! (times 4). But they are also SO precious and growing into little adults. One minute you want to scream/rip your hair out and the next minute you want to kiss/love/hug on them forever. A favorite thing I love right now, is that they like to take turns climbing into my lap like a baby and for me to rock them and sing to them. They smile and say "baby Sav", "baby E", etc. Just melts my heart.

But I take everything in stride, because I know that one day very soon, it will be the parents chasing the kids around, wanting to spend time with them...instead of vice versa. So, despite the tantrums, screaming, fits of rage, fighting, attitude---I soak up every second of my kiddies and just love them SO dern much.

I'll try to snap out of my blogging funk soon. Just trying to survive at the moment! (wow, that sounds dramatic doesn't it?)

Have SAFE holiday weekend travels for those of you who are braving the roads and friendly skies! ;)

this is such a hard stage, but in the grand scheme of things, it is so short! i know, easy for me to say with only 2!

but seriously, by the time these kids hit 3, they will truly be more like people than monkeys with logic and a basic sense of right/wrong and you won't have to repeat everything so much! good luck! thanks for the update!! always interesting!!

This is the first comment I've left, but I wanted to say that you are such a great mommy! I hope that when I'm a mom one day, I handle it with the grace and positive attitude that you carry around! :)

YES! All too soon they will want to play with their friends, and will have no time for laying with Mommy...soak it all up, even the crazy, stressful times...because before long you will look back at this time & be SAD that it's gone!

And I LOVE the bedding Joe is sleeping in...is that your bedding? SO cute!

I have been wondering where you were at. Glad to hear that you all are well, I guess you all are well except for Joe. That is mean (yet kind of funny) getting a picture of him at his worst. I hope he feels better soon.

Funny how I am saying that to my son, that I just have one of, and who is just 15 months old. Wonder what the 2's have in store for me?! And Go You! for the working out thing!

I can't imagine having four two-year-olds! I think the blog can stand a little neglect for awhile. :-)

No Suz, it's NOT dramatic to say you're just trying to survive right now. I know JUST how you feel! I'm right there with you!

(Remember me? I'm the one with 2-year-old twins that were born at Harris just 5 days after yours.)

I don't know if this would be an option for you guys (I can imagine things might get a little tight when you're having to multiply by four!), BUT, ours just started a 2-day Mother's Day Out/Preschool program this week. They attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-2:00, so it's just enough of a breather to get things done, have some Mommy "think time", etc. If it is even an option financially, I would HIGHLY recommend it for you! Check your church or others around for a Christ-centered curriculum.

The kids need it just as much as mom... I think mine get bored being at home and around me all the time. This provides great stimulation and learning for them as well as social skills like how to share with other kids, problem solving, obeying another adult, etc.

Anyway, I feel like a dorky infomercial for Mother's Day Out. I'll stop now.

Have a GREAT day and I hope Joe feels better soon!!!

I love you so much!

I'm so proud of your workouts and your drive. You are the best mommy I know and I love the way you are raising those little monsters ;). You know I say that with all the love in the world! No matter what- you all find the positive and I'm so happy you are remembering to stop and ENJOY this age... cuz soon enough they will be independent little boogers.

Hug Joe for me and tell him I'm thinking of ya'll.

I love you with all my heart!
XOXO
Gen

Check out the book "The Happiest Toddler on the Block." It has some great ideas on those terrible twos and we're still using it to get through the testy threes.

This may sound weird, but my husband did the same thing and he had a UTI, bladder, or kidney infection...

You go girl. Maybe this post was just what I needed to get out of my exercise funk. I was on a roll and then life took over. I can do it. I WILL DO IT!! :)

Keep enjoying those kiddos. I have been going with the same mentality with my three. They are just growing up to stinking fast to be constantly frustrated.

Feel better soon Joe!

Hi Suz! I live in your area (I think), so email me if there's anything I can do to help- bring food, help with laundry, help with an extra set of hands, etc. I'm so impressed you've managed to get to the gym in the mornings! I keep resolving to do that and have yet to actually DO it! :) I hope Joe starts feeling better soon and no one else catches it!!

I have to tell you that you have been an inspiration for me to get back in shape after having my second child. I think you look absolutely fabulous already! Getting up to work out every day is hard enough on it's own, let alone when you also have to take care of your family. Cheers to getting to our pre-pregnancy weight!

Btw, hope Joe feels better!

Girl, you are GORGEOUS! I know getting to the gym makes us all feel better, but you are already one rockin' momma.

How funny....Joe being sick is bringing out the evil Suz (yeah right), dramatic Suz (as if), AND ambitious Suz (now THAT I believe)! And Charity called the KIDS Jekyll & Hyde! Just kiddin', love.

Keep nursing that boy back to health...probably more for your sake than his. Hope everything settles down for you soon.

Love ya!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but three is WAY worse than two! Then, four gets a little better. They're a little older and wiser. Hang in there.

I meant to write something when the quads turned two, but just didn't do it. I love reading about your children. It reminds me of what Janey would be doing now. Especially that sweet little Savannah. Thanks for letting us into your life. You are a huge inspiration.

You are busy busy busy! Hope Joe feels better soon. Your house sounds like my house, but just twins acting out and then acting so fun and loveable. They are very entertaining aren't they? Good job on getting up early to work out, I think about doing that but haven't yet.

I hope Joe feels better soon. He looks miserable in that picture. I know you must be so busy right now with 4 2 year olds. I am a preschool teacher and have 10 3 year olds and it's rough. That age is hard too. They want so much to be independent. But, let me tell ya, my own kids are 8 and what's hard about that is homework and school! Getting them up and ready, making sure homework is done and then the after school activities. It puts parents in overload mode! I think having kids at any age is hard work! lol! But, we love them! The world wouldn't be the same without them.
Awesome that you're hitting the gym so early. I don't know how people do that.
I second what the lady said above...check into a MDO program. It's awesome and gives moms much needed (deserved) breaks.

As a mom of 2 yr old triplets and a 9 month old...It's so nice to hear other parents get a little crazy too! I too find myself screaming DON'T, STOP THAT, HUG YOUR SISTER & SAY YOUR SORRY...is it nap time yet??? We've had a few medical bumps in the road lately with our kids, and in the middle of the crazy two's, one learning to crawl/walk, one have surgery, etc, etc, I do stop and just want to soak up the very moment I'm in with them. How special they and funny they are at this time.
Thanks for the pick me up and making me feel like a normal parent!!!

I can relate! I have become an instant parent of 3 kids ages 2 & under + a 2 year old I babysit 2 days a week. We have 1 daughter, age 2 and now 2 foster girls, ages 1&2. It is exhausting! At first I wondered when I'd ever even get a SHOWER! I'm slowly adjusting. The fighting and time-outs and reprimanding is so wearisome. Some days I'm lucky to maintain. I never feel like I totally catch up. Whew.. I can't imagine doing it from birth! I'm sure there are challenges doing it both ways... at least you've eased into it... but you had to do the mid of the nighters which I don't have much anymore now that the girls are settled in.
Anyways... wrote all that to say I feel your exhaustion! (: Hang in there. I see glimpses of the girls moving past those terrible 2's. It doesn't last long, but it gives me hope for the future! (:

Hi Suz. I have spent the last hour catching up on your posts-I haven't read them since June. At the risk of sounding corny and wierd, it is so uplifting to read your posts. I have been experiencing significant depression this summer. I am in counseling...again, and things seem to be picking up. REading your blogs is so uplifting and encouraging. I'm sure you have your bad days, but I love how you focus on all the positives in your life, and am grateful that you are willing to share with so many strangers.

I will continue to keep reading your very enjoyable posts, especially when I am feeling down.

p.s. I agree with you about time passing, I have a 3 year old and the time is passing so quickly; I spend as much time as I can just lovin' on him and enjoying him and seeing the world through his eyes. This is especially important knowing that he is my last (I am schedule for a hysterectomy in Dec.)

Anyway, thanks again and keep on bloggin'!!
