There’s a Change-ah-Comin’

03 march 2011 197

Yep, all of the toddler beds have been taken apart (and scrubbed down)! These cribs were absolutely PERFECT~ thank you, Grammy and Grampy! I highly recommend buying good quality baby cribs that convert to toddler beds, and then into headboards and footboards for twin/full beds.

(By the way, notice that I’m always talking in plural? Like its normal to have more than one baby at a time? Hilarious. Sometimes I forget).

I’m excited to see my little baby nephew sleeping in one of our cribs someday soon. Can’t wait!

So for now, the quaddies are having a little pow-wow sleep over on mattresses in their room…which will soon be Savannah’s very own big girl room!

03 march 2011 193

When I asked Ethan (left) and Andrew (right) what they were doing in here, they said, “we’re sleeping in our new room, Mommy!” (this is the 2nd bigger nursery where the boys will soon stay).

03 march 2011 196

Ethan and Andrew will be in a twin-over-twin bunk bed, while Benny boy will be in a twin bed beside them. Savannah will be in a full sized bed, using the headboard and footboard from her crib/toddler bed.

Joe and I will be painting the nurseries this Saturday morning! All by ourselves. To most people, this is not a big deal---but you see, Joe and I are not “do-it-yourself” type people (for a reason!). Might as well let the 3 year olds in there to paint the walls! Lol.

So, we are going to have fun with it and see how terrible lovely these rooms turn out.

Winking smile

Any painting advice???

Hugs,

Let me suggest that you pay the extra few bucks and get Frog Tape. It is a green painting tape and I HIGHLY recommend it. We just painted out nursery and even taped off stripes with it and it worked so much better than the regular blue painters tape. (and I really think it's only a dollar or so more a roll than the blue painters tape...)

My husband and I have painted every room in our house, and I can safely say the Shur-line paint edger has been the greatest painting tool investment, by far! We don't even tape anymore! The shur-line is pretty cheap (under $10, I think) and the refill pads are inexpensive, too. (Buy a lot of refill pads. They thin out and are less effective with prolonged use.) Good luck on the painting projects. Can't wait to see the quads' new rooms! :-)

Use painters tape for things on the wall you don't want to get paint on. Lay down old sheets on top of the carpets in case you have a spill. Been there, done that! : )

Take the tape off asap and have a wet rag ready to wipe down any that got on the woodwork. If you wait too long you'll never get the paint off the wood! I'm sure it will look great!

Get the chinet type paper plates and set your pait can on it after you fill you paint pan, it will stick to the plate and be your built in drip pan!

No advice - but I'm pretty sure those headboard/footboards convert to full-size beds, not twin size! I know, because they look a lot like my daugther's. You might want to double check.

Frog tape for sure!! Its the green tape, not the blue. And buying Purdy roller brushes is totally worth it, and getting a nice tool for doing the trim, makes it MUCH easier. Also using a cloth drop cloth vs plastic is good. The plastic will stick to your feet, the cloth is much better, sold at Depot. Good luck!

do all the prep work you can the night before... so you are ready to trim/roll when you wake up and the caffeine kicks in!

Take before, during, and after photos!!

No advice that you haven't already gotten. But, Good luck! Cannot wait to see it when it is done! :o)

Purdy brushes and rollers all the way! Worth the extra $, so it doesnt look DIY. Behr paint and primer in one coats GREAT! Like pp said- FROG tape all the way!

My husband owns a painting company here in TX so you would think I'd know a lot about it but I DON'T! Good luck!

Go to Sherwin-Williams for your paint, it really is better. (No I don't work there or have any association.) And with the bright colors you have, take their excellent advice and get the tinted primer that they are sure to offer. Makes a HUGE difference, and saves $$$ in the end.

prep, prep, prep. Seriously - tape EVERYTHING, take off the switchplates, lay down your drop clothes (I like to buy the plastic drop clothes and then stick them to the tape on the baseboards). The more prep you do, the easier the actual painting will be.

Oh, and tint your primer.

This might be really random but do you have a home for the fourth bed yet! I thought you might be getting rid of all 4 but it looks like only 1 is unspoken for. My parents live in your area so if you're wanting to sell let me know! Jenni.Kriegel@gmail.com

Buy a paint roller. About $80 at Lowe's. It will save you so much time. Even with it you will not be able to paint two rooms completly on a Saturday morning.

Roll first! Trim second! Otherwise you waste a TON of paint and time on the edges.

The Shur-line edger is AMAZING - and also the small roll of plastic dropcloth with tape built into it for the baseboards. I like the Chinet plate idea too!

Something special my parents did in my room when we moved into a new house as a kid - because we were painting the trim as well, was write my name in the wet paint with a fingertip in the window sill. No one could see it because of blinds and it didn't look tacky, but it was special to me!

Good luck & have fun! And keep the pets out (you have a dog right? we had a cat run through a paint can then the entire house once! NOT fun!)

Are those Babi Italia cribs? Looks just like ours! I'm hoping it holds up to make it to an actual big bed! Good luck painting! Can't wait to see the finished projects!

I do any of the painting in our home and I have come to realize

1.) Tape first - you won't regret it but you will, if you don't

2.) If you are going to make lines paint over the tape first with the background color, let it dry and then paint the foreground color. This will ensure you have nice, clean lines.

3.) Cover your floors. I think you had those big plastic ones (from when they were potty training)

4.) It won't ever be perfect ! But do your best =]

Have fun and Good luck !

I think it's funny that you still call them "nurseries." SO DO I! I think I always will ;)

Have fun re-decorating and re-arranging! We have 2 sets of bunks for our girlies (broken apart into 4 twins, 2 in 1 room and 2 in the other). Good luck ;)

After 36 years of marriage and doing maybe two paint jobs in all that time..................hire a professional! My husband says it pays off in the end. They know what they are doing, how to do it, what kind of paint is the best, they have all the right tools, and it will be done in a lot less time!
But, it can be a fun time doing a project together.............or a not so fun time. ha ha Hope it all turns out and you post some pics for all of us.

Lots of great advice! I'm painting our finished third story (has two bedrooms but is a loft-style so the rooms are open; no doors or walls between them). Anyway I'm just doing solid colors because all the taping and striping and stuff is just too much for me.

And don't forget primer. You may need to sand the edges of the stripes on the walls if you rub your hand over them and it isn't smooth or when you paint you'll see lines on the wall.

Can't wait to see the finished nurseries!

I think big bedroom changes will be in our future within the next year or so. Our boy/girl twins are already talking about getting bunk beds and my daughter is talking about having her own girly room. Since our youngest is only 2, we'll hold off a bit before we switch it up, but soon enough!

Good luck with the painting!

This tip changed my life! For trim & ceiling - after you tape, paint just the edge (a little on the wall and a little on the tape) with the color of the trim or ceiling before you paint the color of the wall over. That way if it bleeds under the tape (which it always does) it'll bleed the same color as the trim or ceiling. Then it'll be sealed before you paint over it with the color of the walls.

Sherwin Williams is having a sale this weekend April 8-10. Their paint is 40% off and supplies are 30%. Also, they're offering a $10 off coupon for anything over $50. I printed out the coupon from the blog favoritepaintcolors.blogspot.
