Note to Self:

"Do NOT EVER drive to a destination for Thanksgiving on Wednesday!"

HOLY COW! It started off smoothly, but once we hit the interstate it was bumper to bumper madness. I know what you're thinking: "DUH, woman! What did you expect?!" Needless to say, we hadn't driven anywhere for Thanksgiving in several years as I was either knocked up or locked up in RSV quarantine...so we had forgotten just how "lovely" Thanksgiving traffic tends to be.

I was trying my hardest to find reasons to be Thankful--the main one that kept popping in my head was, "I am SO thankful for four darling babies with four healthy sets of lungs! SHEESH!"

While I was sitting still in traffic, I was getting a wee bit delirious and decided to start snapping photos. I reached my arm around and blindly took a pic of Ben and Drew. (I couldn't reach the dudes in the back)

Ben- can't you just see the excitement in his face??!!! He is SO excited to be traveling!

Drew- taking a breather from screaming and gnawing on his seat belt strap.

I don't know how Shiloh slept through it!

We had SO much stuff, that Joe and I needed to take both of our vehicles...yah, keep smiling Dad! If you want, I can call you on your cell so you can experience your wonderful children "singing" to you at the tops of their voices!....I wouldn't want you to miss out on this! ;)

And no, Joe doesn't get to drive the babies by himself. He has a history of falling asleep at the wheel...

Speaking of falling asleep...its getting late and Mama is getting tired! Time to Amp it up. (See, I told you I was going crazy sitting in this traffic! I'm taking silly pictures of myself!)

My selection of foods to nibble on---Sunflower seeds, baby! As long as I have something repetitious to do, I am good to go. Joe and I have lots of seeds in our cars....you never know when you'll need 'em!

We took a detour when we reached Waco (the halfway point to Austin)---we HAD to get off of the interstate. As long as the burb is moving, the babies will fall asleep--but stop and go traffic with headlights in your face does NOT make it a pleasant experience for anyone! It took us 6 hours to travel what normally takes us 3! UGH! But hey, we made it perfectly safe and had a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving with all of our family! Ah...the beautiful Texas sunset with the glow of white and red lights...(sarcasm)

Goofy Uncle Dan spreading some Turkey cheer as the quads eat their first Thanksgiving dinner!

Drew and Ethan checking out the turkey. (Drew looking at Dan like he is not impressed)

Savannah wondering what in the heck Uncle Dan is doing...Ben looks terrified of Mr. Turkey and just might start crying.

Yummm....top off the turkey din din with bananas for my little monkeys. They LOVE 'em.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! I am in Waco with the babies this week--fighting to stay well...but this cold is starting to get the best of me. Yucko.

Sorry to hear about the "lovely" Texas traffic, but glad you made it safely. It sounds like you have such a great sense of humor by taking funny pictures, etc. I think you should tape the kids crying so Joe can listen to them in HIS car! :-) Hope you feel better soon.

Oh Suz, I give you so much credit for taking the kiddos for a 6 hour car ride in holiday traffic. I can only imagine how crazy you were feeling. I feel crazy enough sometimes taking one 8 month old to the store sometimes...I can only imagine 4 one year olds! Glad you made it safe and sane though. Hope you get to feeling better :)

I am so glad that my family lives so close to us. No traffic jams for us.

Your little darlings are growing up so quickly! They are all beautiful.

I can totally understand the delirium....You'll do ANYTHING to keep yourself from jumping out of the car into moving traffic (or not-really-moving traffic, in your case). Glad you got to spend Thanksgiving with the fam!

Love,
Moni

p.s. Uncle Dan TOTALLY looks like Drew Barrymore's fiance in The Wedding Singer. I can't think of his name right now, but it'll come to me! Dead ringer, I tell ya...

Is that normal? or is that just Thanksgiving traffic? Holy cow! Glad the holiday was more enjoyable..as it should! I so enjoy your humor in everything. Unfortunately I don't see the humor for awhile after the current event!

You deserve a medal for that ride!

Gotta love that traffic!! You guys are so brave. My boys are much older and I still can't handle long car rides.
I'm glad you enjoyed the holiday.

Girl, i envy your patience. I can tell you i would have cried right along with them ( shoot i do that at home sometimes with them, especially now with a house full of sickos).
Glad you made it safely and had a good time.
I think the twins look just like you by the way!!!!

OK I'm cracking up b/c when we traveled and my triplets were around that age we'd do the same thing-boosters on the floor. My siblings were shocked by the volume of food inhaled :)
So cute! Glad you got there ok.

Poor thing! I have experience the dreaded I-35 traffic more times than is fair myself. It was pretty slow on Sat as we made our way back to SA. Hopefully, all the helping hands once you got there made up for some of the hassle in getting there. Thanks for all the cute pictures.

Hey fellow Waco'er! I, too, was stuck in the SAME southbound I-35 traffic...I am guessing you were on the I-35 West/ft. worth side, too, like me (and not the dallas side which was not backed up). It took me 3 hours to get to good 'ole Waco! Nuts! I was not with 4 precious quads though ;) wink wink. LOVE your blog and your cutie pies, too!!!

We gave up driving AT ALL during Thanksgiving week years ago. Too much traffic drives me nuts!

Suz,
Hey I have left comments on your blog a few times and love keeping up with y'all!! I am thinking my triplets are about to have to get the cranial bands and I was wondering what you thought of them and if you'd do it again? I know you are SOOOO busy, but if you have a few thoughts about it my email is ashleygibbs@cableone.net

Glad y'all had a good Thanksgiving!

Along the lines of your encouragement to play "the glad game" as it is called in the Disney moive, Pollyanna... I am sooo thankful I only have 1 of two that doesn't like to ride in the car. We drove from ATL, GA to Ohio. If I never put the twins in the car again, I'll be thankful. hahaha Hope you feel better soon!

Traffic stinks! But - on a higher note - I LOVE your hair! It's darker than it was, isn't it? I hadn't noticed, guess when you are in pictures with the babies I'm always looking at them. Anyway, looks great.

First off, I love your blog! I found it earlier this spring and now many of my friends and family read all the time! I haven't posted before, but after I read about your traffic woes I had to share a secret. My husband and I were traveling the opposite of you from Austin to Fort Worth and we took the back roads and went 70mph + the whole way! If you remember for next year take I-35 (West) South to 174 (around Burleson) to 67 to 220 to 281 then you will end up on 183 which is on the west side of Austin. I promise its a lot easier than it sounds and it made our usual 3 hour drive only a little over three and a half hours!! Enjoy Waco this week. Steven Curtis Chapman is performing this Thursday at Christmas Tree Lighting at Baylor if you're around!

Wow Girl, you are a trooper. I so would have played the "I have quad babies card" and made the family come to me! You have a darling family.

What a rough drive! Glad to hear you made the best of it and snapped some pics of the 'fun.' Hope your trip home was less eventful and quieter. The pic of your hubs in the 'quiet' vehicle is a hoot. Can't imagine what you were thinking knowing he was on his own while your sweeties serenaded you.

Happy belated Thanksgiving!

Oh, and I've said it before and I'll say it again... you've got great hair, girl!!! Lookin' GOOD!!! :)

What an experience! Love the pictures and your stories. The babies are growing so fast and are such cuties! What is is about those sunflower seeds? That's what I keep in my car for long trips, not that we take many long trips, but when we do....they are there beside me! I hope you get to feeling better real soon. A friend in East Texas, Pam.

Hello! My name is Katie Woltz...i live in NC and just recently had twins:) They were miracle babies born at 26 weeks! My friend sent me your blog and I have so thoroughly enjoyed reading it! I am amazed at the similarities!!! My boys just got cranial helmets...i love how you decorated them:):) We are big UNC tarheel fans and luckily our helmets are Carolina blue! My husband was thrilled! I was laughing at your post from last year where Ben would NOT lift his head up...Will is that child for me....every day we put him on his tummy for tummy time and he goes fast asleep:) I also started laughing when I saw that you call one of them Boo Bear....that is what we call Jack!!! I just had to say hello and tell you how much I have enjoyed looking at your blog. You are Superwoman! Two is a handful for me...i can't even imagine four!!! Congratulations:)
