No More Glasses...

...well, at least after her upcoming EYE SURGERY, that is.

YEP- at the end of November, our little princess is going to be having a bilateral strabismus repair to correct the crossing of her eyes known as strabismus. Our recent appointment with the pediatric eye specialist, Dr. Norman (who is awesome, btw) revealed that Savannah's eyes have not gotten better AT ALL--despite the glasses and eye patches. It is a fairly easy outpatient procedure and our good friend (and fellow quad buddy) Cullen Tubre had the same surgery earlier this year and is doing great.

This will make Sav's 3rd surgery THIS YEAR ALONE! Ugh. poor thang---her next major kidney surgery (Ureteral Reimplantation) will be the following week after her eye surgery! Thankfully, these procedures should be permanent fixes to all of Sav's medical issues. Looking forward to 2010 and being surgery-free! (knock on wood) Please be praying for our little princess & the professionals involved in her care!

In other news: my sweet, sweet hubby watched the kids this weekend so that I could enjoy some much needed R&R in Waco with the parents. I am amazed at how many people gasp when they find out that "Dad" is in charge of all four of the little dearies--all by himself. He is such an incredible man and amazing father. We trade off weekends frequently---Joe gets to go play with his boys while I hold down the fort, so I get to spend a weekend away every now and then as well. It is such a nice trade off and SOOOOO needed! (Especially now---these feisty 2 year olds are really testing their boundaries/limits every chance they get!)

I had a wonderful weekend with Mom & Dad. There is something SO incredibly comforting in being able to wake up in the same bed & bedroom where you were raised your entire life! No schedule, no responsibility...not to mention all the wonderful food and chats with dear 'ole friends. Thanks again Mom & Dad...and Joseeeef, I love you SO much!!!

Happy Monday, sweet blogger buddies! ;)

Dr. Norman is amazing! He and his wife are good friends of ours because my husband is one of the other docs in his practice. Sav is in very good hands! Praying all goes well. Blessings to all the Steeces!

She is just precious. I have been reading your blog for sometime and never know how to comment, I feel stalker-ish. Silly I know. Your family is just wonderful and beautiful. Each post is so sweet and you can see the love your family has. And the dads, they are rockstars too!!! Best wishes to your little lady in surgery.

Suz,

I had the same surgery when I was Savannah's age. I actually had one eye done at a year, and the other at two years. Everything turned out just fine. She will do greatr, I know it. And, if they could fix my crossed eyes back in the early 80's, just imagine what they can do now. Let me know if I can do anything for you. Oh! I didn't know you guys new about the Oasis. I love that place....now if I could just get a boat..LOL!

My thoughts and prayers are with you all....especially Sav! It will all work out just fine. But, I will miss her glasses. She is so stinking cute in them. It reminds me of my old ones! (which my mother still has)

Love ya,

Julia

I'm only surprised the grandparents let you into their home without the grandbabies. Oh, I'm kidding.

My husband was always a very hands on dad and I was almost offended when people would say "He's babysitting for you?" It's not babysitting when they're your own children.

I used to sneak away to my mother's house for a night just to lie on her couch and watch cable tv - because we didn't have it. And I only have two children - three years apart. So glad you both are able to get little get aways. More parents need to be willing to do that.

We loved having you home this weekend, and for those asking, yes we did babysit the quads all by ourselves the previous weekend. Joe, you da man!!! We know what it takes for a weekend, and there were two of us, and we are still sorta recuperating, ha!

I will be praying for sweet Sav!
Aren't the weekends away wonderful. I am in big need of one myself. I too am always amazed when people freak-out to find Beau is in charge all weekend by himself. We both married amazing men.
Saying lots of prayers,
Hugs,

Well thank you for stopping by my blog, I'm a newbie!! I have to say how jealous I get of your trips to Austin, I grew up in Cedar Park just north!!! We are stationed in NC and it's so different from Texas. I'm a Lonestar State girl at heart!!

I only have 2 toddlers and a weekend away sounds like Heaven right about now! So, I can only imagine how much YOU needed the break! Heading back to mom and dad's house for rest and relaxation is always great. Have a wonderful week (:

I had that same procedure at 4 years old. I did have to patch my strong eye after the surgery and wear glasses to see out of my un-patched, weak eye for a bit. But other than that I've never had any vision problems. Still 20/20 or better!

I know Sav will have the same results! Good luck to her (and mom and dad too!!) Everything will turn out great!

Praying everything goes well for sav's surgery and she is so adorable just like all of your kids.

Poor Sav. I hope her surgery is complication-free and that four surgeries will be it for her forever!

By the way, I get the same surprised reaction when people find out Dylan does his own ironing. Why wouldn't he? So funny.

I had that same surgery when I was Savannah's age as well!! But then I still had to wear glasses afterwards, I think the surgery procedure has improved a lot since I had it back in 1987. After years and years of wearing glasses (I was severely far-sighted as well as the strabismus, especially in my right eye) I finally no longer have to wear glasses because I basically just learned to compensate. :P Savannah's surgery will go great though!! And later on she'll have absolutely no recollection of it--I have no recollection of mine!!

Hi Suz,
Happy that Sav can be helped by way of surgery. She sure is a little champion. Blessings to her as she undergoes the surgery.
Suz, can you do me a favour? When I read your blog I'm always seeing what seems to be a picture perfect family, a husband who seems to be too idyllic for words ;) and four gorgeous little children who you seem to have so under control. Now...you just mentioned in this blog how you go away for the weekend sometimes and that it is much needed, especially right now, because the little munchkins are truly testing their boundaries. Can you please blog about some of this and how do you deal with that. I have boy/girl twins and have my hands absolutely full with them testing their boundaries and wonder sometimes what I'm doing wrong. Maybe to actually read someone else's perspective on things might just help me on how maybe I could do things differently. I love your blog and value your posts so much. We too are a christian family but sometimes I feel myself so lacking in my closeness with God because my kids are sapping everything out of me.

Good luck with your surgeries! We found out in July that our then-7-week-old baby girl has VUR as well. We're anxiously watching for signs of UTI daily, and go back in December for another ultrasound. I'll be following and watching for info on your surgery!

I have a hands on husband. I am always offended when people think it is weird/act like he incapable of taking care of our son without me. I know when I leave our son in his father's care that when I return everything is fine. Plus our son loves spending days with just daddy...I am so out numbered in this family. Prayers are going out for Sav and her surgery!

My Savannah had 4 strabismus surgeries, so we've been there & done that. Your Sav will be just fine! Let us know a couple days before so we can pray for her!
