My New Beauty Secret

The blog has been getting the shaft for 2 reasons:

1) our camera is getting a new lens installed- due to an unfortunate accident about a year ago…someone dropped it on the hard cement at an Aggie game. ah hem. No camera. No pictures.

2) I have been working at the surgery center like a crazy person. I will have worked every single day this week (including 2 late days!) But I absolutely LOVE it! Working is my therapy- helping others, interacting with adults, using my brain/degree. The only thing, is that my body is having trouble keeping up with my heart…I’m exhausted and trying to mend a pulled muscle in my neck.

So, as I was thinking of something to blog about this morning while I was putting on my make-up…I got it!

One day last week, I was watching TV and heard:

“instantly correct the appearance of dark circles and brighten the skin around your eyes”…

Huh?! My little ears perked right up. You see, I have ALWAYS struggled with the dark rings under my eyes…the ones that make me look like I haven’t had sleep in days…the ones that make me look like I am stressed out beyond belief- even when I am completely refreshed and happy. They run in my family and poor Sav has them too. :(

So, the next time I went to the grocery store, I picked up the new product: the Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Eye Roller.

Now, this is not a compensated review…no one has asked me to promote a product, I just had to pass along this info for anyone else who struggles with dark circles!

I always hear about anti-puff products and smoothing creams, but rarely hear about products geared directly toward eliminating (or masking) dark rings under the eyes.

Guys, I LOVE THIS STUFF! and I bought it at Target for only $11, I think? SOOOOO worth it!

anti dark circle roller

This magic little wand rolls away my dark circles. It contains a caffeine Gel that energizes and stimulates microcirculation. The lemon essence brightens. And tinted mineral pigments instantly correct dark circles.

Give it a try and tell me what you think! I’d also love to know of any other products that have worked for you and your dark rings under your eyes! Please leave me a comment and do tell! That information is pure GOLD to me! ;)

Suz,

I totally feel your heroin-addict under eye issues, same here! I haven't been real impressed with repair treatments (although I will definitely be trying this one) I have found an AMAZING concealer. It's by Michael Todd (I used the cornsilk shade) and I love it. It lasts ALL day and doesn't cake up in the tiny wrinkles I have developed under my eyes since becoming a step mother. Check it out: http://www.michaeltoddcosmetics.com/store/product/id/21/name/under-eye-concealer/category/concealer/category-id/22

Just added this to my Walmart list for this weekend. I have the same "heroin-addict-looking" circles of which you speak!

okay, so i know your camera is broken, but you need to give us an "after" photo so we can see this stuff in action!

I know you probably didn't mean it to offend anyone, but I repecfully disagree with the comment about working so "you can use your brain". I have a college degree as well, but choose to go the route being a full time homemaker and mom and find great fulfilment and satisfaction in it and do not feel like I have wasted my degree or my brain in anyway, I believe those life experiences in college have helped me be the mom I am today and on most days my brain is plenty stimulated.

That just stood out to me in your post today. God bless you and your family.

Thanks for the recommendation! I too have dark circles under my eyes, regardless of how much sleep I get. I absolutely LOVE it when my co-workers tell me how tired I look (sarcasm). I'm going to try this now!

I am going to have to go out and get this becuase I have the same issue and everything else seems to be geared more towards puffyness. I do use an under eye cream by olay (it is kind of like concealer but much thinner so it goes on smooth), but I am not sold on it so i am willing to try this. The olay eye roller dried out my skin to much and made the skin under my eye dry and flakey so be aware.

I started using the roller wand over the summer and I LOVE it! I use a little on my cheeks, too (they tend to be a little rosy), and have even used just the wand and a little mascara instead of my usual Bare Minerals routine. Great stuff!

Hey Suz!
I have read your blog ever since I lived in Waco. Love it and you are too cute. You inspire me as a mom of 2 little boys.
I'm a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant and thought of this product for this post:

http://www.marykay.com/elizabethjwilliams/skincare/agefighting/10029737/10029737/default.aspx

It's called Eye Revitalizer in our TimeWise Age-Fighting Series. All of it is amazing stuff (but of course not sold in stores, just through consultants like me) who are trying to make a living while staying home with our kiddos. :)

But check out the link. It's good stuff for sure. Hope this helps since you don't have 2 hours to stand in the beauty section of a store and read all about products. Here it is for you! Let me know if you want to try it. I'll leave you my email address! eljdawgster@gmail.com

Blessings,

anon- i am not surprised that someone had to comment on the statement: "Working is my therapy- helping others, interacting with adults, using my brain/degree."

for whatever reason, there are moms out there who are VERY sensitive on either side of the "stay at home/working mom" platform. i am NOT one of them.

obviously, this post had NOTHING to do with that issue. i am merely sharing HOW I FEEL ABOUT WHAT I DO, AND THE THINGS THAT I NEED TO DO TO HAVE "ME" TIME (not referring to any other mom but myself).

thank you for understanding.

oh, and if ANYONE understands how the brain is plenty stimulated by being a stay at home mom, it is a mother of quadruplets.

ooh i'm so getting this at the store tomorrow! i have always had those circles, and working two part time jobs plus writing a dissertation and being mama to an almost 4 year old has just made them worse! concealer hardly makes a dent and is gone by mid-morning thanks to my habit of rubbing my eyes when i'm thinking hard, lol! thanks for the tip!

Just wondering if you have ever done any research on dark under eye circles being related to an allergy. Most people have food allergies/intolerance's that you aren't really aware of...chronic anything (headaches, bowel issues, rashes etc) are often related to a food allergy. Typical food allergies are wheat, milk, soy. Not all food allergies cause the typical anaphylactic (sp?!) reaction. I'm more of a find the reason then a mask the issue type of person but not everyone is!

Just my thoughts!!!

I'm definitely trying this soon!
Thanks for the rec.

And nice response the anon. ;) You stayed at home a long time and appreciate your paid job now that you have it again... And you still get to use your brain at home when you're back to being the Mama. I found that quiet clear!

hehe

Gig 'em and God bless! :)

Suz,

I'm from Charleston, SC. I found your blog a while back and I LOVE it! I have to defend your statement about work being your therapy and using your brain/degree. I am a Registered Nurse as well and let's just face it, if you don't use your Nursing skills, you lose them. Sure, there are certain principles that will always be the same, but to stay current, we have to practice in our field. I am a former NICU nurse and am now working in my hospital's pediatric outpatient clinics, I can tell you I have missed the NICU ever since I made the switch (for scheduling and family reasons). I'm actually super excited about getting my NRP re-certified and working some prn shifts in the NICU again! It is my therapy and it makes me happy! I think you do a fantastic job and I love your blog. We just cannot make others happy and sometimes people can't see another side, but I just wanted to back you up as a nurse, working mother, and Steece's Pieces follower. God Bless you and your family.

Okay, I'm so going to try this!

One produce I LOVE that I've been using on my eyes is the Neutrogena Clinical eye treatment kit. It's two tubes of lotion that you put on one right after another around your eye area. It decreases puffiness, sagging skin and fine lines, etc.

I'm only 26 and I figured, how bad could my eyes be, right? I noticed a huge difference in the look around my eyes within two weeks. I'm totally sold on this product now. It's a little pricey ($35-ish) but I've been using the same kit for ~3 months now, so a little goes a long way.

Jafra's Optimeyes. It's clinically proven to reduce dark circles. In my experience, it works. (It's an eye cream.)

I used to sell Jafra, now I'm really just a customer, but I can do orders if I want. I can send you samples, which I do have on hand, or you can go to www.Jafra.com and choose a consultant.

totally have been thinking of trying this. I currently use Physicians formula cover up for dark circles. it is in a lipstick tube and is yellow. I put it on before my foundation.

And I knew someone would comment on the work/brain part. I totally know what you mean.

Totally ran out and bought this after reading your entry. I have had these for years and the lack of sleep of having two under three of course makes it appear (or seem to appear) more noticeable. On a random note, the other day I caught 5 minutes of tv it was the Doctor show... anyway just happened to be about dark circles and one Dr on there said to use plain ol' Alpha Hydroxy. I have only found it at Walgreens but it was $6 and I am trying it as well. But the concealer you mentioned it GREAT! Thanks for the recommendation.
