Its normal to let four 3-year-olds help in the painting of their big kid rooms, right? Yah- I must say…it definitely wasn’t MY idea, but I’m glad that we did it. (Drew, Ethan, Ben, Sav)
They had so much fun!
After about an hour of this craziness,
…we kicked the kids out of the house (by the grace of Liz and Chris, and Collin & Ashley!)…BEST. FRIENDS. EVERRRRRRRRR!
Joe and I had fun in our empty house, working on our little project together. Here is the room after we had painted all the primer.
Ade, I love you and I thank you & your family for painting the nurseries for me while I was in the hospital on bedrest---but I have to tell you that Joe was cursing your name while he attempted to paint over the green and polka-dotted ceiling! LOL. I was dying laughing!
Primer in the 2nd nursery.
As if we couldn’t love Chris and Liz anymore for taking our kids ALL DAY LONG---they came back over and helped us paint!!! Chris is incredible at the fine details. Couldn’t have done it without him…or at least- it definitely wouldn’t have looked good!
So, we had to figure out what to do with the kids for night time while we worked on their bedrooms…we brought their mattresses downstairs and they had a little slumber party on our living room floor. At this time, it is like 10:00 pm- but they eventually all fell asleep. Such a weird, weirrrrrd day! (Notice Shiloh and her beaming red eyes? creepy. lol)
We worked and worked and worked until about 2am! Chris and Liz spent the night with us (a HUGE thanks to Liz’s mommy for tending to their twin girls so they could stay and help us).
Awwww- aren’t they cute?
Liz and I about to pass out from sheer exhaustion.
This pic was a little after 2am. Notice how far I had to move Ethan and Andrew apart? Those crazy tweedles play with each other nonstop.
And this is what we have so far:
Joe and I are IN LOVE with the colors we picked out and they look SOOOOOO good with their bedding! The boys’ room is a dark khaki with an espresso brown trim.
Sav’s room is the dark khaki color on top, with a more subtle sage green on the bottom. It looks phenomenal with her bedding!
Here is the bunk bed that Joe put together! Ben is beyond thrilled to have the top bunk! SO EXCITED! Drew will sleep below him and Ethan will sleep on the separate twin bed right beside the bunk bed. I let them choose where they wanted to sleep and it actually worked out perfectly! (that was a nice surprise for once! LOL)
Drew, Sav, Ben, and Ethan
We still have lots to do. Need to purchase sheets and curtains (so freaking expensive)…and waiting for Savi’s new full bed to arrive! We have super cute wall decals for each room that I love. Can’t wait to put it all together and show you!!!
Chris and Liz, thanks again for all of your help. You are incredible friends and we love you to pieces.

The paint looks great and I love that the kids got to have fun painting too! Can't wait to see the finished rooms! :)
so cute! it looks great! have you tried Ross/Home Goods/TJ Maxx for sheets and curtains? I've found some great deals there!
Suz - if you don't mind me asking where did you get the bunk beds and Sav's full bed? I am on the hunt for furniture and can't seem to find anything that is good quality and not outrageously priced. Thanks - BTW it looks great!!
Hi Suz- I have a question for you. My trio is about the same age as your foursome. We're also transitioning to big kid beds. My kids (2boys & 1 girl) aren't ready to be split up but we can't fit 3 twin beds in a room. Currently my boys are in twin beds and little miss is still in her toddler bed. We're actually going this weekend to look at beds but we weren't sure for this age if bunk beds were ok. Are you at all worried about Ben up there? We were considering a loft bed from Ikea so it's like a bunk bed but lower. Just curious about your thoughts. Thanks!
Looks great. Can't wait to see the finished product.
The rooms look awesome! I love the color combinations. And good for you for letting your kids paint...this mama has too much Type A in her blood to let my girls go at it! :)
Can't wait to see the rooms all finished.
bunk beds are not safe for kids under 6 for many reasons, especially with 3 boys in the same room, please consider the recomendations of doctors and consumer reports, best wishes,
mom of quints including 4 boys and 2 sets of bunk neds
It looks awesome! Cannot wait to see the final results! Way to go! :o)
Girl I CANNOT wait to see it all finished! It looks amazing. We are so glad we got to help...we love you guys..but you know that!
hi! love your blog! I can totally relate with you and your nursery! I have 10 month old triplets and being on bedrest i wasnt able to decorate the nursery at all. My husband has no artistic flair so two boys and a girl ended up with just plain baby blue walls! I cant wait until they are 3 to separate them and really decorate an awesome room. www.thegrezeszaktriplets.blogspot.com
I love how the rooms look so far. Can't wait to see the finished product!
Looking great!
Inspiring! We are moving in the next month and I will have to paint, I'm sure. Seeing the before and after pics makes me feel motivated for the task before me!
Love the new looks..Isn't paint amazing. I found blackout panels at Target, yes Target and they are amazing....even the ones that aren't lined are great and inexpensive. They match Pottery Barn Kids too a T! Also, curtainworks.com has great prices!
Nice work! I love the browns in the boys' room! can't wait to see the rest of it all put together.
We won't be redoing the kids' rooms for another year or two (at which point we'll give our daughter her own room while her twin brother will then share with his younger brother). By then the twins will be 5 or 6 and I'm sure they'll have plenty of opinions on what colors and decor they'll want!!
