During the Book Fair at school last week, I purchased a new book for each child. I surprised Savannah with a Disney Cupcakes and More cookbook…which she absolutely ADORED!
What a great opportunity to utilize her precious, cupcake apron from Auntie Teryn! (I just LOVE this picture of sweet Sav and her two chins…she is SO PROUD of her apron)
I let Little Miss Priss pick out any recipe in the book that she wanted to try and we made cupcakes together (a new weekly or perhaps monthly tradition). She enthusiastically chose the “Snowy Owl Cupcakes” (from Sleeping Beauty) on page 22.
And I have a sneaking suspicion it was due to the colorful gummy candies & jelly beans that serve as the owl eyes & beak---this girl LOVES candy.
Assisting my little baker…Mama is so proud! I tried to step in as little as possible.
We had a spy---peering from behind the bar (sweet Benny Boo was watching our every move)
This is what happens when you give Dad control of the camera for 2 seconds…
mixing it all together…
Absolutely priceless. LOVE this pic.
Sav was waaaay more interested in licking the spoon/bowl than filling the muffin tins. (Yes, I realize that there are uncooked eggs in the batter---but a little spoon-lickin’ never hurt nobody…)
peeking in on her cakes…
We have some verrrrry interested customers. The waiting seemed like eternity for these eager little mouths.
And after dinner, after finishing ALL of their vegetables (nothing wrong with the occasional bribe)---the children were able to decorate their very own owl cupcake!

Not only did we have fun baking in the kitchen together, but Mama was also teaching the kids some very important life lessons: doing things for others, sharing our favorite treats, surprising others for the fun of it, etc.
We packaged up some cupcakes, along with a cute little “OWL card” and made special, surprise deliveries to Auntie Liz, Aunt Ashley, and our wonderful teachers at school.
Nevermind that this hard-working-out Mama had a secret, ulterior motive:
getting those cupcakes OUT OF THE HOUSE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE!!!

What a precious post! Not every mom will take that time to bake with their kids. I'm glad you do. Some amazing modeling going on in your house.
How precious, you are so cute, I love cooking with the little ones, my kids are 9 & 13 and started helping in the kitchen at that age and still love it, you are such a good mom with darling little ones!!
I love your family! How fun!
Cute pictures.....but Sav is such a mini you! I have never met you but I can tell you have such a bubbly personality and she seems like she is going to be the same way. Just get excited about the least little thing, I think it is great! You are such a good mother and your family is so blessed! Have a great day! Your friend in East Texas, Pam!
This is wonderful! What a fun Mother/Daughter activity!
yall are just the cutest family ever! what a sweet tradition to start with sav!
Those owl cupcakes are so darling, I think I would like to make them with my grandchildren. I can't quite make out what you used for the eyes and nose?
Whoops! I just reread your post and see that you used gummy candies and jelly beans. Don't know how I missed that the first time. But is there something in the center of those gummy candies to make them look like little eye balls?
It was so fun watching Miss Sav be the baker with her 3 brothers looking on! :)
LOVE the apron. She is BEAUTIFUL!
absolutely adorable!!! cant wait til my daughter is of age to bake. I LOVE Sav's apron!!
<3
too adorbs.
The picture of them all waiting for the cupcakes to cool is hilarious! Good job, Sav!
Gee thanks, now I want cupcakes! :)
We loved them over here!!! I wondered if you were getting them out of your house...sneaky sneaky. Plus if you give us cupcakes and fatten us up you will look even better all skinny! Well played Suz, well played! JK, Love you!
So cute and those cupcakes look delish!
How cute that Drew and Ethan picked the same cupcake color! What a great job you did with Sav :D
Hi Suz! I've been following your blog for over a year now but never left a comment. Saw this post and was pleasantly surprised to see we have similar bonding activities with the kids halfway across the globe :) I am from the Philippines. Check out my blog update today: http://densandfan.blogspot.com/2011/09/my-little-junior-masterchef.html
You're an inspiration!
She is too stinking cute for words!!! Don't you just love those moments with your girly...precious! HUGS, friend!!
i love them they are soooo cute!
Great pictures Suz! Too cute!
Hey, don't hate on double chins! Love that pic of Savvy, her smile is so genuine and natural in that photo! Cute cupcakes and so nice to teach the kids about sharing and giving to others. Good job there, Mama!
Oops, forgot to ask why Savvy's eyes are so puffy under the eyes? Is she sick? poor thing!
Nothing wrong with raw cake mixture, best part in my opinion. Raw eggs in mixture never harmed you or me, cause we are still here and grown up with children, so I love letting my 2 lick the bowl if they require it. This world is too PC sometimes!
awwww... those cupcakes are adorable and I love that you gave them away.
You really are a sweet southern mama :)
I love the apron! Any chance I could talk Aunt Taryn into making one for my daughter?!
