I just started this after reading about your success. It really hit home when I started reading the book. Thanks for putting it out there! I am looking forward to your next post about it.

I tried this 3 years ago and only lasted 2-3 weeks. I would love to try it again. This is probably a silly question since you have 4 littles and work, but did it cause insomnia for you? Any time I cuts my carbs that drastically I get insomnia and I just can't deal without sleep. Also, I do not eat eggs and I find it so hard to come up with alternatives without doing bacon and sausage each day. Thanks!

OK... I have a few:
Where do you buy low carb bread? I have looked at Tom Thumb and Kroger but they didn't have anything that would work. I am currently on day 4 and everything has been going really well, except for breakfasts - I feel like the only thing I can eat is eggs - and I'm not the biggest fan of eggs. I tried the "legal pancakes" this morning and they were alright, but I'm curious if you have discovered any other bfast options. Thanks!

First, thank you so much for the information on this plan. I started it when you first posted the that it was working for you.

I must say that I feel so much better! I am no longer dragging through the day, I have so much more energy, I sleep better, my period is less intense, my mood is better and my skin looks fresher.

I started this to lose weight but at this point I don't care if the weight comes off or not. I just love the how I feel.

Have you moved to step 2? I am nervous about eventually making that step. Do you have any tips for making the transition?

What type of low carb bread do you purchase? Can sweet n low be used?

I had the same problem--can't find low carb bread and breakfast seems the hardest. I'm not a fan of eggs and doesn't look there is many options in phase 1. We tried several of the recipes you posted and have been pleasantly surprised. I don't know about going completely carb free, but I have definitely cut them down drasticly! Thanks for the recommendation.

I bought the book, but it is so long! I dont know when I'll have time to read the whole thing. Are there any highlights to read first so I can get started and then read as I go, or do I need to read the whole thing to get started? I love reading and am not trying to be lazy, but want to get started! Thank you for helping the rest of us! :)

I feel sooooo much better; however, I don't see it melting anything away. Perhaps I haven't given it enough time. I will say that as a carb lover, I can't believe how much I DON'T miss them, and this is coming from someone who typically eats apples and carrots everyday...and so many carrots that the palms of my hands generally have an orange hue. I {heart} carrots!!! I have found myself now satisfying myself on nuts. What other sources of proteins do you suggest? I'm not a big meat eater.

I start in the plan on the 16th of June after reading your blog. I have been feeling great and 10 lbs gone (I know I wasn't supposed to weigh for 8 weeks..oops:) Can't wait to finish stage one and start on stage two!

How do you get through the weekends/eating out? I started on Monday and I'm nervous about the weekend!

Kerin said...

I haven't read the book or cookbook yet but I'm hoping to get them from my library this weekend... My questions are: (1) Are you having to prepare different meals for yourself than the kids or have you found some good dinners that work? (2) What about fruit?
Thank you for creating a Pinterest board for this topic!

What does it say about beans (black beans etc)? I looked back in the book but can't seem to find anything! Thank you!! :)

I got the book and read thru it and was wondering how you made it not eating fruit? I LOVE fruit especially all this wonderful summer fruit. I can't imagine not having any. Just curious if that was a problem for you. Also, I'm lactose intolerant and it seems you eat a lot of dairy so wondering if it would work out for me.

How do you fit in your snacks when you work?

I would love to see what your eating in a typical day (meals, snacks, etc). Do you make the same recipes for the rest of your family or make something different?
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences!

Can you have corn? I'm reading the book now (thanks to you!) I don't remember the author mentioning corn so I'm guessing no.

I found Wonder smart wheat bread at Target. It meets the carb count. I have been on this for 5 days and feel great. Tons of energy which is a first for me so I am loving it. I also have been having a little insomnia too though. I bought the book and the recipe book. Awesome recipes. I have tried a few and they all have been good. Thanks for opening this up to me Suz. Who knew the havoc carbs played.

Need help with breakfasts on step one. Will you please post recipes or links to recipes? A little confused on two things... bacon and salad dressings. Are they both okay for step one?

I am waiting to get my book still - should get here any day now. But in the meantime, have a couple of questions for you:
1. Is your entire family doing this eating plan with you? How do they like it? (I'm married w/ 5 kids & in nursing school full time - that's crazy enough without adding making multiple separate meals for everyone!!)
2. I'm not a big meat eater - lots of fish, sometimes chicken, but never pork or beef. Will that work on this diet?

I have looked at some of your recipes on pinterest & most of them look really good - can't wait to try them (making squash chips tomorrow). Thanks for helping all of us!!

So...I am almost two weeks in and I am still fatigued by mid afternoon. Am I doing something wrong?

Nadine said...

I could only do step one for 8 days and went to step two. I was starving, weak, and shaky half the time. Doing much better now and I know I'll still lose weight. I couldn't find locarb bread either so googled it and found a recipe to make in my bread machine. And it's only 2 gm carbs per slice so I can eat a little fruit or something with it.

Hi! ... I started about a week ago due to your recommendation... This isn't a question, but I want to share a suggestion to all those who have recently started... join Miracle-ville! It is a wonderful resource! You will find out about foods and recipes that will make doing the program sooooo much easier. The other (more experienced with MM) members provide a wealth of knowledge, and Diane Kress (the author of the book) actually responds to questions daily and will look at your food diary if you want. I know it costs to join, but even if you do it just for a month, it is worth it.

Deb said...

I started MM about 3 weeks ago and so far I've been doing really well with it! Here are the challenges I've faced, and I'm wondering how you have dealt with them:

1) Like many others, breakfast! I do like eggs, just not every stinkin day! I've made them about a dozen different ways, but I'm starting to get so sick of them. I'm a teacher, so I know when school starts back up there's no way I'll eat eggs every morning. Every now and then I have a slice of low carb bread with peanut butter or sugar free jelly, but that doesn't really fill me up.

2) Sweets...ok, I know in phase one you're not really supposed to have "dessert" but I find myself really needing something sweet. I've eaten umpteen Real Fruit popsicles, made little cheesecake cupcakes topped with sugar free jelly (pretty yummy), and the peanut butter cookies (don't know if I did something wrong but they were SO DRY). What else can I do when I want to run to DQ for a blizzard?

3)Exercise...how often are you exercising? I try, try, try to like exercising, but I really don't! I made myself walk/run on the treadmill and do the rowing machine 5 days this week hoping I'd feel great and become one of those people that claims working out just makes them feel so great, but not so much!

Thanks for any tips you can provide! This diet is very encouraging. I do notice my clothes fitting looser and my energy level increasing, which keeps me motivated to stick with it!

What do you eat for lunch? I need quick prep options.

THANK YOU for brining this book to my attention! I am on day 8 and feel great.

My question is....How are you eating Lindt truffles on this plan? I cant figure out how the carbs work out.

Kellene said...

Yes, I started 3 days ago and ate a bunch of pinto beans and black beans but then tried to look them up and the book is mum on most things beans. Any clue on other kinds of beans beyond the green and wax mentioned in the book.

I 2nd/3rd/4th the comment about needing breakfast ideas. I have done egg cups (scrambled eggs in a muffin tin with cheese, turkey bacon, feta, spinach, etc. from this website: http://www.kalynskitchen.com/2012/01/recipe-for-egg-muffins-with-ham-cheese.html

Thanks for the great book suggestion! I'm hoping it will help with my headaches and lack of energy.

One of my main questions is what do you do when you go somewhere that dinner is provided for you, someone cooked for you or ordered pizza, etc...?

Ellis said...

Do you use the protein shakes? If so, what brand? I have read the book and am planning to start when we get back from our vacation next week. I am a teacher, so eating eggs every morning won't be an option once school starts. I'm thinking a protein shake in the morning may be my best bet! Thanks!!!

Thanks for sharing this Suz! I have been struggling with thyroid/hormonal issues but can't take meds because I'm brstfeeding. It sounds like this would help me, but I'm thinking it's probably not safe to cut carbs while nursing. Does the book mention anything about that?

Thank you so much for sharing about your experience! I got the book and was encouraged that there could be a solution for the issues I've been having. I got started right away, but unfortunately I'm currently breastfeeding and by day 3 I noticed my milk supply was going down. Looking forward to trying again next spring!

A helpful tip for those struggling with breakfast - you don't have to have "breakfast" for breakfast. I eat turkey wraps or leftovers from dinner on occasion.

Ok Suz, I start tomorrow...wish me luck. I went to ten places looking for low carb bread. Found one at Trader Joes. It's called Trader Joes Light Whole Wheat Bread. There are 11 carbs-5 g fiber= 6 g carbs. Closest I could find. Even with that, I won't be able to have a sandwich because that's just for one slice. So, I will have a piece of toast with my egg and cheese. Looking forward to the answers to the above questions.

I am on day 7 and feeling really good!
Did you take your measurements after the first month? Progress?
I have cheated and weighed myself just to make sure the scale is going in the right direction ;) And it is....but can't tell any diff in inches yet (I know, it's only been a week. I'm a really patient person- ha).
How long did it take for you to notice a difference in inches? Just curious.
I am following your MM board on Pinterest but would love to know more of the products you are loving and meals you are eating.
Thanks for the inspiration to start & get healthier.

One more question: Amounts....how MUCH of things can I have. For instance, having a ribeye for dinner. Can I eat the whole steak?

1. Do you count sugar free coffee creamer as a 5x5 carb or a freebie?

2. Where do you find low carb bread? I've looked at HEB, Wal-Mart, and Target with no luck.
