Renal Scan, Part Deaux

Quite the little personality...I'd have to honestly say that little Savannah Leigh Steece makes me laugh about 20 billion times a day! (not unlike her father) And if anyone is ever talking or laughing about something, she joins right in and starts laughing herself in this deep, loud, boisterous laugh--absolutely contagious!

Well...its that time again...Savannah has her second renal scan tomorrow (Thursday). In order to catch you up on Sav's condition, you can read back to previous posts:
Rough Week

And this is an excerpt from my post when we found out her diagnosis:

sav has two very specific DIFFERENT diagnoses:

1) kidney reflux...which they will usually just watch and treat with antibiotics every day until 5 years of age, hoping she will outgrow, but if she continues to have bladder/kidney infection after infection...they would go ahead with surgery...which is a relatively easy procedure

2) UPJ obstruction causing severe hydronephrosus (her kidneys do NOT LOOK NORMAL AT ALL! they are HUUUUUGE with large knot-looking things all over them and bulging with fluid)...they usually catch this in utero, but since there were four babies smashed in my uterus, dr. pinto said that he was not surprised that it was not detected. this is a GENETIC condition--the boys are all normal PRAISE GOD. dr. pinto likes to run two renal scans before opting for surgery. she does not have any kidney damage (woo hoo) and her kidneys are draining...just VERRRRY slowly. (so it is not a COMPLETE block! woo hoo) her renal scan was WAAAAY delayed more than normal. she is still SO little and since she was a preemie and is quite young...he's hoping that maybe it will get better by june...if not, surgery will be imminent. usually 2 to 3 days in the hospital and 6 weeks recovery. it is a pretty rough surgical procedure on her kidneys with a nasty scar on her back.

the two surgeries are separate procedures and cannot be performed on the same day b/c they are working on the upper ureter and lower ureter...the middle part would die! yikes.

all in all: good things...but everyone knows that i am not the most patient person in the world. if something is wrong with my baby, i want it FIXED! but, for now, we will wait until june when she gets her second scan. (which JOE will experience while i stay home with the other three!) oh yes...and we will be doing LOTS and LOTS of praying!!! ;)
Sorry, lots of writing. Thank you for all of your questions about Sav--I haven't responded b/c we really won't know anything until our follow up appointment with Dr. Pinto on Monday, June 23rd. Please be praying for little Savannah for tomorrow...and for mom and dad! Yes, we will BOTH be going.

Savannah (and you) will be in our thoughts and prayers. Such a rough thing for such a little girl to go through.

My daughter has the same onesie. It's one of my favorites. And love the hat!

I meant to ask you about Sav on MOnday. I thought about it when we got in the car. I had been thinking about her reflux and was curious. Thanks for the update. We will continue our prayers for her complete healing!

Suz, you, Joe and sweet Sav will be in my prayers that tomorrow shows marked improvement and no need for surgery! I hope all goes smoothly.

And Sav is a doll baby! Such a happy girl.

I have found your blog through blogs and your quads are adorable. Savannah has the sweetest smile and I will be praying for her that all will be okay. I had many problems with my kidneys when I was little, fortunately I outgrew, but the procedures performed were less than fun. God is big and I know that, but praying your sweet baby doesn't have to have any surgeries. Blessings, Ashley

My daughter had verisco urethea reflux (think I spelled it right) and was getting urinary tract infections as a baby....she was on the antibiotics for a little over a year and luckily outgrew it. My thoughts are with you.

I will be praying for your sweet little girl- she is PRECIOUS. I found your blog when you were preggo (I went to ACU and found you via the CoC blog-world!). I was pregnant with my first baby who was due at the end of August, but he was born very sick and spent the first 10 weeks of his life in the NICU, so your NICU journey was such an inspiration to me! Your amazing attitude, incredible support-system and solid marriage is such a testimony. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us! Love, Kelly S.

She is adorable...that smile can make anyone smile. Prayers for her and for her parents :) Oh and I remember the post about her choking and you doing CPR...you said you noticed it on the video monitor..which video monitor do you have and do you use it and does it work well? We are looking into getting one for our girls but the reviews are less than desirable. Obviously, yours worked that night and served its purpose so just curious as to what you think of it now.

Shes so precious! Will be praying for you guys! I know all three of you will do great tomorrow. MUCH LOVE!

Sweet butterfly Savannah...I will be praying for you and your mommy and daddy. I know the test is hard on you but it will be over before you know it. You won't remember it but your poor parents will.
I hope everything is okay. I'll put in a prayer request at church on Sunday.
Your smile makes everyone smile right back. I hope your mommy posts a video of you laughing soon.

Suz - Oh My... I just can not even imagine the thoughts, fears and emotions that you will be going through on this day! We woke up praying for you and will do so all day! I am praying that God would guide the surgeon's hands, that He would let the Dr's "see" what He sees. I pray that the surgeon's ego doesn't get in the way with the TRUE physician... I pray for your family, your husband and your friends - that they would know just how to omfort you today and that they would give you grace if you are a little more cranky than normal... I pray for Joe that he would be able to express himself however he needs - seems like it is so hard for men to let it all out... AND pray for little Savanah - that she would heal quickly!

Being a nurse has to make it doublely hard - you know just enough to make you more worried!

We're praying for y'all, Suzanne. Just keep in mind that Sav won't remember the whole ordeal by the next morning - she's too happy of a baby to dwell on such tings!

Oh, one more thing Savannah. After going through that test, you need to tell your mommy that you deserve a new dress, a new bow AND a new toy to play with and chew on. Hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. ;)

How did the test go for Sav? Sean only had an Ultra sound today, but they confirmed that he still has stage III bilateral Hydronephrosis, so they are referring us to a urologist. He had a VCUG done in January and they want to repeat it, I am not thrilled about that. I hope Sav is doing better. She is adorable. I just love looking at pictures of your beautiful babies.
